A night on a working ranch

Arrive in the afternoon and we'll send you up the hill to Hell's A-Roarin' Ranch, where the Johnson family has lived and worked since the 1930s. Ride out in the evening with views over Yellowstone, then sit down to a steak on the grill and all the fixings at the cowboy cookout.

Sleep in a canvas wall tent with power and real furniture, with full bathrooms in the bathhouse nearby, or in one of the ranch cabins. In the morning: breakfast, a ride into the high country and a picnic lunch, then back down the hill to Gardiner.

Want the river too? Call us: the 3-Day Yellowstone Adventure pairs a ranch night with our Overnight Raft Trip.

Reviews

Families at the ranch

“Our family of 4… did the ranch overnight and 2-day rafting trip. It was a blast… Be sure you can handle that long on a horse, some city folks will hardly be able to walk or sit afterwards. The guides were excellent though and able to point out all kinds of sites, animals, and birds.”

Guest review · Boys 10 and 13

“We booked a 3 day 2 night adventure of horseback riding, camping and of course white water rafting… Our night in the tent was great and they went out of their way on the level of cleanliness and quality of meals.”

Good to know

Overnight at the Ranch: your questions

Why do I have to call to book?

Ranch nights depend on the ranch, the stay you choose and your dates, so we set them up with you on the phone. Call or text us and an owner or our office will help.

Wall tent or cabin?

Both come with the rides and the cookout. The wall tents are canvas tents on platforms with power and furniture, with the bathhouse nearby; the cabins are ranch cabins. Ask us which is open on your dates.

How old do riders need to be?

At least 7.

How much riding is it?

About three to four hours in the saddle over two days, so make sure the whole family is comfortable with that.

Can we add rafting?

Yes. The 3-Day Yellowstone Adventure adds our Overnight Raft Trip, or add a day trip like the 8-Mile.
