Meet our guides

The people in your raft

The owners are at the shop every day of the summer, and our guides come back for their fifth, sixth and seventh seasons. That's who you'll be on the river with.

The owners

The owners answer the phone

Flying Pig is a family business. The owners, both former raft guides, work at the shop alongside the crew all summer, and when you call, it's often an owner who picks up.

Kenny grew up coming to Montana after every baseball season to fly fish and camp with his dad. After a season in the Mariners organization, he came out to guide. He spends his summers in Montana and the rest of the year in the Lowcountry with his family.

Pat grew up in Georgia with his longtime friend and business partner, Kenny, and came west to try his hand on the river. He met Libby while she was working at the Pig, and she still works alongside the crew. They live in Livingston with their son and their dog, Otis.

Our guides

Guides who come back

Seasonal work usually means a lot of turnover. Not here: our guides keep coming back after college because they want to work at the Pig. Come back in three years and there's a good chance you'll see the same guide.

Good kids, not a party culture

Parents are often amazed that a young guide is not only in charge and confident on the water, but making eye contact, asking about their family, and cooking a great dinner at camp. The kids look up to them. In high water, they're calm, steady and completely in control.

Trained to keep you safe

Every guide goes through our own guide training, run by our rafting managers and the owners, plus a multi-day swiftwater rescue course. All guides hold current CPR and first aid certifications.

The 2022 flood

When the flood shut the river for three weeks in 2022, we didn't let a single person go. We refunded every guest who cancelled and kept the whole crew paid, and every guide came back for 2023.

From guest to guide

Our rafting manager first came to the Pig on an overnight trip as a kid. Years later, he runs the river operation and still guides the overnights.

In guests' words

What families say about their guides

“Rented the raft for my family of 6 with Mac as our guide. She killed it… We saw a mother elk and babies cross the river in-front of us before we went head first into the rapids…”

Sean · Family of 6

“We did an overnight rafting trip with Jaxon and had the best time. Jaxon was so knowledgeable about the area, and so great with the tweens on our boat ride. The food at the camp site was amazing…”

Guest review · Overnight Raft Trip

“My son (10) and I did a 1 hour horseback riding/8 mile water rafting experience. The horse back riding was just beautiful… Our guide, Baxter, was incredible!”
