Horseback riding questions
Do I need riding experience?
No. These are trail rides, nose to tail with a wrangler: you won't be cantering or running. Most of our riders are beginners.
How old do riders need to be?
At least 7. Cookout dinner-only guests can be any age, and kids under 5 eat free.
Do we drive ourselves to the ranch?
Yes. It's about 20 to 30 minutes up a gravel mountain road. Most cars and SUVs are fine at 15 to 25 mph; large RVs, travel trailers and motorcycles are not.
What should we wear?
Long pants and closed-toe shoes. Each horse has a small saddle bag for a camera, a water bottle and a light jacket.
Do rides go in the rain?
Rides run rain or shine unless the trails are unsafe, so bring rain gear if the forecast calls for it.
Can we ride and raft on the same day?
Yes, that's our favorite way to do it. The Paddle & Saddle Express pairs a one-hour ride with the 8-Mile Raft Trip in about 4½ hours.
Is the cookout vegetarian-friendly?
We can accommodate vegetarians on request. You're welcome to bring your own beer or wine.
